What type of volleyballs does Snohomish Youth Volleyball use?
We use two different types of balls based on the players grade level. Decent quality volleyballs retails for between $30 - $50 and are commonly available online or at specialty sporting goods stores. Common brands are Baden, Mikasa, Molten, and Tachikara. Most volleyballs are now a composite material. We recommend that players purchase an indoor ball for practice if they do not already have one. Please have your player put her name on the balls. Players are to bring their balls to practices and game nights for warm up. SYVA provides game balls for the league nights.
3rd - 6th Grade
Our elementary school players use a lighter weight U12 volleyball commonly known as a U12 Ball or "Volley-Lite". These balls are regulation size but are lighter than the standard volleyball.
7th - 8th Grade
Our middle school players use regulation size and weight volleyballs. Pricing and availability is same as noted above.
What should my player wear to practices and league games?
Players should wear comfortable athletic clothing. Gym shoes or cross-training shoes are fine. Socks are required. Parents commonly ask about what shorts to wear. Running or gym shorts are fine. Some of our players wear volleyball spandex shorts.
Does you league provide team t-shirts?
Yes.... SYVA team shirts are included in player registration fees and provide to players. Shirts are also provide to coach and assistance coach if the team has one. Colors are unique to each school and are assigned by the SYVA at the start of each season.
What should my player bring to practice and league games?
Make sure your players bring a water bottle to the gym during practices and league games to stay hydrated. Sports drinks are not allowed in our gyms. They also might want to bring a backpack for their ball and note book with a pen/pencil if the coach asks them to bring one to jot down notes during practices.
What are the net heights for SYVA practices and league play?
Net height height varies by age division.
What nights are practices and league games held?
Practices are held twice per week typically on Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs and are one hour in length. They are held at your local elementary or middle school. League games are on Friday nights at Snohomish High School. There is also a 2-3 night year end single elimination tournament. For more details see our Schedule Page.
What is your policy on refunds?
Full refund during open registration period. Partial refund of $75.00 after open registration is closed. No refunds after the first week of practices.
How are teams assigned?
Teams are assigned by the coaches and league officers in a preseason meeting. We strive to accommodate coach, player, and practice day/time preferences. Priority is given to coaches players and also incumbents from the previous season team.
Are there serving limits?
There are five (5) serves maximum for 3rd -6th grade. Serving team rotates to the next server after 5 consecutive serves. No limits for 7th/8th grade division.
